LASCI (Life After Spinal Cord Injury)

LASCI (Life After Spinal Cord Injury) founder Bert Burns became a quadriplegic as a result of an automobile accident during his youth. His desire to make a positive difference in the lives of people with disabilities led him to create LASCI. Established in 2010, LASCI is a free peer support program sponsored by Edgepark Medical Supplies and UroMed. LASCI offers a variety of resources for individuals, their families and caregivers, including online and on-site events throughout the year.

LASCI Motivational Speaking Program

Through LASCI, Bert devotes considerable time as a motivational speaker for children with disabilities, rehabilitation programs, medical education seminars and other community events. Bert explains his reason for reaching out: "I hope to convince patients in wheelchairs that they can still do all the things they want to do and more. They will just have to do them differently.” While presenting, Bert inspires others by sharing his story of winning a Gold Medal in the 1992 Paralympics, and how he became a successful entrepreneur by creating UroMed, a leading national catheter supply company that recently joined the Edgepark family.

Bert also gives his perspective on:

• Work/School • Sexuality
• Dating/Marriage • Children
• Sports • Bladder/Bowel Management
